One of our client dogs was nowhere to be found when we showed up to walk him last week. It turns out that earlier in the day, he had chewed or scratched through the screen on the window and jumped out. Unfortunately, he did not have his collar on because he was inside. Luckily, the story ended well and he was reunited with his owner a little while later at the shelter. But it made me think to remind everyone that it is much easier for people to return your pet to you if they are wearing an ID tag with phone number. If you leave their collar and ID on at all times, if someone happens to find them, they can get them back to you without involving the shelter. Microchips are important too, but ID tags are equally, if not more, important for immediate identification.
