Who Are We?
Karen and Bea are a mother-daughter pet-sitting team in Mission Hills, California (pictured above is Bea with foster puppy, Eloise). If you live in the 92103 zip code, you’ve probably seen them walking a neighbor’s dog or checking in on cats and other pets near you. Here is a bit about them...
Bea was a featured speaker and donor at the San Diego Humane Society Board of Trustees Holiday Event in 2011, where she talked about how she translated her passion for animals into a successful local business. Her interest in animals also led her to research animal psychology and training techniques, which she applied to training with her Miniature Dachshund, Willie, and currently, to upper level agility training with her Italian Greyhound mix, Geoffrey. Bea has been contracted several times by Petco for animal handling on commercial videos, including a Halloween special, a video about the care of guinea pigs, and a video about pets in the classroom. She has direct experience caring for dogs of all sizes, cats, reptiles (bearded dragons, anoles, snakes), rodents (guinea pigs, rats, hamsters), rabbits, goats, sheep, fish, chickens, and tortoises.
Karen has spent 29 years working in the animal health industry in one form or another, from volunteering at local shelters to working as a veterinary assistant to pay her way through college. She has also traveled to Australia, Africa, and South America on animal-related expeditions.
Together, Karen and Bea are foster parents for Second Chance Dog Rescue and have fostered and found wonderful homes for over 100 dogs and puppies to date. In addition, they foster transitional-aged kittens, guinea pigs, and newborn puppies for the San Diego Humane Society, and spend time each week working with rabbits and guinea pigs in the San Diego Humane Society's Pet-Assisted Therapy program. They have worked with Petco, the San Diego Union-Tribune, local television stations, and other companies by supplying pet talent and animal handling for commercials, as well as informational segments.
