With spring and summer in San Diego, come hot days. Pavement (black top) can reach high temperatures on hot days, and can burn your dog's pads. To see if a road or parking lot will be safe for your dog to walk on, place your hand on the asphalt for 5 seconds to verify that it is comfortable. Also, if you stop to talk to a friend, be aware of what surface you are asking your dog to wait on beside you.
We attended a Canine Companion Academy lecture on "How Dogs Learn" last night up in Oceanside, given by the Humane Society. Did you know that all volunteers for the Humane Society (including foster families) are eligible to attend their many animal behavior classes for free? Love that.
